The laser cladding technique refers to the use of the high energy density of a laser source to melt a metal powder or wire onto the substrate to form a deposited layer (a particular functional layer). The combination between the deposited layer and the surface of the substrate is metallurgical bond, of which the substrate melt depth is very shallow and the dilution rate of the particular functional layer is comparably low, thus the surface property of the substrate part can be changed as needed, for example to achieve a particular functional layer for a higher wear resistant, corrosion resistant, high temperature resistant or oxidation resistant on low grade component surface.
